Historical - 1980s

The look I am creating today is inspired from the 1980s. My look is based on one particular 1980s superstar pop icon – Madonna.

Women and girls have idolized and adored Madonna for decades.
She has changed her look over the years but her first look in the 1980s was the messy chic look that caught on like wildfire with women dyeing their hair and dressing in a Madonna-inspired style.

Madonna's makeup was done with basic enhancements, especially to the eye area, using eyeliner and eyebrow liners. The eyes were lined with eyeliner to get a dramatic eye and the eyebrows were highlighted. I will use an eyeliner pencil to add a beauty mark just above the left lip. A dark shade of red lipstick will complete the transformation into one of the greatest pop icons of the 20th century

Black Swan

My inspiration for this look came from the recent buzz about the Oscar nominated ballet film Black Swan. Black Swan is described as a pyschological drama and mad horror thriller.

When I got the opportunity to create my own avant garde look I decided to take inspiration from films such as Black Swan and turn it into my own interpretation of a high fashion look.

My model will begin with a base of white foundation across the face and neck. I want all of the intensity to be focused on the eyes; they will be dark and sharp. I think the eyes scream danger, while the red lips with the glitter finish are quite alluring and somewhat sexy.

To complement the red lips, a red contouring powder will be used to create a strong cheekbone.   Red, white and black flowers will be placed at the front of the head in a section of backcombed hair, while feathers will drape over the models shoulders to give the look of feathered shoulder pads.

Colour Craze

Everytime I see a video released by Kelis it inspires me. She is extremely individual and experiments with numerous looks in each video she films.

I find her use of colour quite unusual, but also attractive, as you can see she is expressing herself through the use of brightly coloured makeup, funky accessories and numerous hairstyles.

My look today is based on Kelis’ latest video, ‘Scream’. I will be using  bold colours such as fuschia pink and intense blue and creating a wave of colour from the lash line to the brow in order to make the eye pop in the finished photograph.

The cheeks will be heavily contoured and a bright pink glossy lip will bring the look together.

Fashion Fire

I was inspired by a face chart I saw by Mac Cosmetics for my fashion look today. The face chart had a huge flame swept across the face. There was numerous colours through the flame which really attracted me to it.

I have changed my look around slightly today. The theme is play in the darks and I want my flame to to be the light in the centre of the dark room. The room is a dark room in an old house. There is a catwalk down the centre of the room, and my model is there to light up the catwalk, as if she is a flame lighting up a huge fireplace in an 18th Century house.

All the focus will be on her, it is a dark and dramatic look, but the bright colours of the flame definitely shout out the fun theme of ‘play in the darks’.

Black & White

My inspiration for my black and white photographic look came from the image of a clear sky on a summer’s night. A pitch black sky with stars shining across it and an orange/red glow still visible from the sunset.

I will translate this inspiration into my look through the use of a matte black eye which represents the dark night sky, while the use of diamonds along the lower lash line and across the strip of the false lashes will reflect the stars across the sky. A red/orange colour blended along the edge of the eye will give the illusion of a sunset and complete the theme.

My cheeks will be heavily contoured and a glossy berry lip will be applied. The bow of the lip will be highlighted to complete the look for the black and white photograph.
